The European Parliament and the Council of the European Union adopted a new regulation for all member states in 2020. The regulation replaces regulation (EC) 1222/2009 of the European Parliament and Council. It establishes improved labelling for tyres and applies as of 1 May 2021 to all tyres produced or placed on the market in the EU. According to this regulation, in addition to fuel efficiency, wet grip performance, and external rolling noise, manufacturers must now provide additional information on snow grip and ice grip performance if the tyres are specifically designed for use in severe snow and ice conditions. In addition, a QR code must be included in the tyre labelling. EU tyre labelling requirements generally apply to passenger car tyres, van tyres, and truck tyres (tyre classes C1, C2, and C3), with some exceptions.
